It is hard to believe that we have only been back eight school days! The Year 11 mock exams have now finished, so they can breathe a sigh of relief this weekend … until Parents’ Evening next week on Tuesday!
A number of congratulations to highlight this week. Anastasia B Yr 9 received a surprise in the school post this week; a book token from Strutt and Parker for being a finalist in their Christmas Card Competition. Domenica Yr13 took part in a national art criticism competition at the Saatchi Gallery. The ARTiculation Prize is The Roche Court Educational Trust’s public speaking competition, which invites sixth form students to give a short presentation on a work of art, artefact or architecture of their choice. Although she didn’t get through to the next round, she did extremely well in delivering her talk on Mary Magdalene and the depiction of prostitution in art. The U14 and U16 netball teams were out on the court for the first time this year and the U14’s beat Holland Park by 1 goal. Congratulations to Sky and Fran for some excellent shooting.
The MHPA Committee had a meeting this week where they are in the planning stages for some fun events this term. More details will follow on the Annual Quiz Night (12th March) and a Make Up Master Class (5th March)~ keep the dates free.
I was lucky enough to attend a Food For Thought Lunch on Thursday with the More’s Household. It was hosted by Mrs Boulter and the theme was ‘Happiness’. Some very thought provoking and interesting ideas from the girls about the meaning of happiness and how to be happy. We all went out with a smile on our faces!
Father Michael spoke at Mass this week to the Yr 8’s about consideration for others and told us about an event which happened in New York City, and involved a man called Wesley Autrey. He is nicknamed the ‘Subway Hero’ after saving a man’s life who had a seizure and fell onto the subway tracks. When interviewed for the New York Times Wesley said ‘“I don’t feel like I did something spectacular; I just saw someone who needed help. I did what I felt was right.” It certainly made us think.
I hope that you have been given by your daughter a hard copy of the first edition of More Insight, our new termly magazine. It captures some of the wonderful activities and achievements which took place last term. There is also a digital version – http://www.morehouse.org.uk/120/publications
Have a lovely weekend
