Dear Parents,

Spring is in the air and in the next hour I shall be dressing up with all the girls (look out for the photos!) to support the London Communities Foundation as we run our charity mile in Hyde Park.

Congratulations to Hattie yr9 for participating in the Big Bang National Science Fair at the NEC. She did a wonderful job of presenting her science project and has come back with some great ideas for next year’s National Science Fair competition. photo-22

Last weekend the PE department went to watch the Netball Super League with a crowd of 6,000 avid netballers. IT was lovely to hear comments from some of the girls during the match. ‘Look Miss a split jump’ or ‘Miss did you see they did that warm up that we do!’ . We had a great result in a Hockey tournament this week coming 2nd against our local rivals.

The House competitions are forever expanding, with this week holding the first ‘Whacky Olympics’. The sun was shining and Canterbury lifted the trophy with their victorious win.

WACKY OLYMPICS

The junior debating group seems to be getting bigger on the back of recent success. As the girls improve and win some debates the level of enthusiasm and interest increases. Their most recent round in the London Junior Debating League was an evening full of excitement .

Their prepared debate was excellent, with well structured speeches form Sofyia and Eya and an excellent summing up from Manaal. The judges were mightily impressed.

Our most recent discovery is Anoushka in year 7. She came along to support the team and did time keeping with Genevieve but later in the evening she spoke for the first time in the unprepared speech and gave, not only a barnstorming speech on the evils of tobacco, but also handled the rebuttals with confidence. The judges made particular mention of her skill at making coherent points about the complex subject of the defence budget. Really excellent work from all girls.

Just as well the club is growing as our ‘ Mini League’ is happening this term with challenges set up against Hill House and Portland Place in March  – watch this space!

Lastly for this week, I would like to thank the Parents’ Association for a fun quiz night. Although the questions were very tough and biased towards football, the staff team managed a respectable 2nd place. The funds from the evening will be used to purchase an interactive screen for the Dining Room.

Have a lovely weekend and I hope the sun will shine!
