Dear Parents,

We have had a wonderful final week to finish off the Spring Term. It is really hard to believe that twelve weeks have flown by. Thank you for all your messages with regards to the Easter Choral Concert, I have passed them onto the Music Department as I know how much work went into creating the evening. It truly was a spectacular event and the girls once again stunned the audience.

Choral concert

We were lucky to hear the Chamber Choir again sing the Miserere Mei, Deus in our Lent Service this morning. I think sometimes we forget that we are blessed to have so many girls with incredible musical talents in such a small school. The Choral Concert was filmed on Wednesday evening so if you were unable to join us, or just want a copy to show your family, then after Easter watch the blog for ordering details.

It was an exciting and challenging end to the term for the debating club.

‘This week the club had two events which were both challenging and fun. As the Junior Debating League draws to a close More House was debating against Putney High, Twyford Abbey and Upper Latymer schools. The unprepared debate, about abolishing the monarchy was a challenge as there seemed to be fervent royalists in the opposition, who were very informed about the ins and outs of royal protocol. However, Genevieve Yr7 held her own and challenged the opposition successfully on more than one occasion. The prepared motion ‘This House would abolish exams’ was hotly contested, with spirited challenges from Mannal Yr8, Sofyia and Aya both Yr7. They are increasingly confident with their rebuttals and indeed their argument covered a range of convincing issues as they proposed the motion. Aya was excellent in her opening speech and was quick to spot inconsistencies in the opposition’s argument, as her point of information was a killer blow. It was an impressive debate and judges gave them great praise for their fluency of argument and made mention of their assertiveness ! If they develop these skills further and with care then future wins will be even more forthcoming.

The Junior Debating club developed their Mini League contacts further by linking up with Portland Place School. On Tuesday evening the girls were hosted by Portland Place school in a friendly debate, ‘This House believes that UK citizens should have the right to choose to die’ This prepared debate was excellent with the girls presented well researched speeches in opposition to the motion. Sofyia was particularly impressive with her rebuttals and Mannal’s summary was clear and authoritative. Subsequently the team notched up another impressive win.

I was particularly pleased with additional support from Anoushka Yr8 and  Stella Yr8 who accompanied the team for fun. Indeed it is pleasing to see lots of new girls attend the club and I thank them for all their energy and commitment. Mr Hegarty

The House of the Term is awarded to Canterbury and the Form of the Term went to 8PC. Well done everyone.

It is tradition to finish off the Spring Term with the House Talent competition. Girls have auditioned throughout the term and we showcase the best acts. This afternoon we had singing, dancing, magic tricks and gymnastics. The Upper Sixth reminisced by donning their old uniforms and giving us an insight into their 7 fabulous years at More House. The winner of the Junior Competition was Sophina with her tap dancing, Matty and Amara won the Senior Competition with their singing and the overall winners were the Upper Sixth. Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to Mr Keeley and the Heads of House for organising a wonderful finish to the term.

The PE Department and girls are getting excited about packing their bags and hitting the slopes of Sugarloaf in Maine USA. They will be skiing for 5 days and then it is off to the Big Apple for some sightseeing and retail therapy. I hope they are taking large enough suitcases!!!

There is already so much lined up for the Summer Term. So please have a look at the Save The Date and put these events into your diary.

With blessings for the Easter holidays
