Views from the Headmistress’ study – 15th May 2015

Dear Parents,

Exams are well under way for our current Year 11’s and the Sixth Form and we wish them the best of luck over the next few weeks.

On Monday, it was lovely to welcome Jane Carol, the general secretary from the Girls’ Schools Association. After a tour around the school, she was very impressed by the atmosphere and by the girls and staff that she met. She was very excited to hear about our renovation plans of the kitchen, classrooms and toilets, over the summer holiday. Perhaps we need to invite her back again in September to see the changes!

Thank you to the parents who were able to make the Activities week meetings at the beginning of the week. If you were unable to attend please make sure you get all the necessary information form the trip leader.

The Art GCSE and A level exams and A level textiles exams have been taking place, with the girls putting all their ideas into their final pieces and completing their journals. They have now taken over the Studio and the Art Room in preparation for the examiner and Art Exhibition. Please make sure you have 3rd June, 4.30pm – 6.30pm in your diary for the Art Exhibition, as no doubt it will be a stunning evening.

On Thursday, Ms Revell hosted this term’s Food for Thought lunch which was attended by members of More’s Household and staff. She got us all to think about ‘Dreams’ and members of the Senior Chamber Choir performed the Everley Brothers hit ‘All I have To Do Is Dream’. We questioned why we possibly dream and what our dreams may mean? A fascinating way to spend a lunchtime.

As I write this Year 9’s are in Ypres, Belgium with the History and English Departments visiting the WW1 battlefields. This is always a memorable trip and I will ask the girls to reflect on this for next week’s newsletter.

Have a lovely weekend,

Amanda Leach

Prayer of the Week from 8HC assembly:

Dear Lord,

Help us to remember that sometimes what we see on the outside is not what is inside.

Help us not to judge by appearances, but to get to know one another, and find out about what is inside each of us.

For it is by finding out about each other that we can make true friends.
