Views from the Headmistress’ study – 20th May 2016

Dear Parents,

With the weather that we have had this week, it has been at times difficult to believe that we are in the Summer term. However, we have managed to dodge the showers and take the Year 7’s to Bodiam Castle and Year 7 & 8 to the London Wetlands. Unfortunately, our rounders fixtures had to be cancelled and so I have no scores to announce.

Last weekend we had our first ever More House rowing team compete in the Putney Regatta. They did incredibly well for their first race and you can read all about it here.

Last weekend, Mr Keeley took some of the Senior Chamber Choir to the Kensington Roof Gardens to sing at the wedding of one of our old girls; Dr Laura Ismail. She particularly requested songs that she herself had sung on various music tours back in early 2000.

‘Dear Mr. Keeley,

Thank you so so much for making our day so beautiful and special… Honestly you made it feel like a fantasy dream of memories! So so grateful that you could be there and my family could share the experience! Please let the girls know that they made my day, if not everyone’s!! Please wish them the best of luck for their exams too, I’m sure they’ll do great :)’

Mrs Mercer and Canterbury House Captains have been busy organising an ‘Animal Treasure Hunt’ today to raise money for the WWF. Various endangered animals were hidden around the gardens for the girls to find, and each animal found entitled them to a prize! It was wonderful to see nearly 50 girls involved in raising money for such a worthy cause.

Since announcing our Race for Life Just Giving Page only last week, we have already raised £550. Please tell all your friends and family about the 5K Race for Life and see if we can reach our £1,000 target.

I received a lovely letter from Marie Curie thanking us and the Thorne family for selling daffodil badges at Holy Trinity Church before the Easter Choral concert. They raised £119. Well done!

I do hope you will be able to pop into school on Wednesday between 4.30 and 6.30pm to have a look around the Art Exhibition and see all of the stunning work from Year 7 up to A’ level. Unfortunately I will not see you there, as I am on a course with the Girls’ Schools Association. (One sadly I cannot get out of!)

Exams have been well and truly part of the week and I wish all the girls the best of luck.

Have a lovely weekend,

Amanda Leach
