14/09/18 – Views from our Study

It was lovely seeing so many of you at our various Information Evenings this week. We hope they provided useful insight into both the academic and pastoral aspects of your daughter’s life at More House. The presentations have been uploaded to the Parent Portal for your reference.

If you are having problems accessing the portal, please contact the school office.

School Officers

The new school officers were presented with their badges in assembly this week! They are gradually getting to grips with their new responsibilities: running the School Council, settling in the new students, assisting with Sports Day preparations, and leading their Houses.

Sport Report

Our extracurricular clubs and activities are well underway and we have a huge number of students taking part! We were particularly pleased to see so many year 7 girls at netball club on Tuesday. This term, we have 50 before/after-school clubs, 30 lunchtime clubs, and welcome two new clubs: poetry and step aerobics.

We look forward to continuing our training programme as we prepare for the RBKC League matches, which start later this month. Mrs Mercer, leader of the netball programme, has been hard at work drawing up contracts with players and creating a “Big 10 Bonus”, which will be issued for excellent commitment to fitness training, netball training, and gameplay!

Our GCSE students have begun their preparations for the netball footage they will need to film for their course. They were hard at work at 7 AM on Wednesday morning with Mrs Mercer and Miss Minto at Latchmere Leisure Centre. This week, they learned about stage 3 defense – or rather, how to dictate where a player moves on the netball court. Here are the girls in action playing a game of cops and robbers!

Meanwhile, our P.E. A-level students have embarked on their course with impressive enthusiasm and were discovering how to become sports nutritionists in their exercise physiology lesson with Miss Minto this week. On Monday, they made their very own protein supplements – they actually tasted rather good!

Eco Club

Well done to the Eco Club for their first crop of fruit and vegetables! It’s amazing what you can grow in a small space.

History of Art at the Tate Britain

On Thursday, the sixth-form artists and art historians spent an afternoon at the Tate Britain to see the Aftermath Exhibition, which addresses the impact of war on the artists who fought. These artists, hailing from Britain, France, and Germany, reveal the emotional and physical effects caused by war in their grueling artwork.
