16/11/18 – Prize Giving

Prize Giving

We enjoyed an incredible evening last Thursday during our annual Prize Giving. It is always lovely welcoming back last year’s upper sixth and hearing about their first few months at university. They are all enjoying their courses and newfound independence.

If you were unable to join us, you missed an inspirational speech from Baroness Benjamin of Beckhenham (famous as Floella Benjamin from the sixties/seventies show Playschool). Her talk was hard-hitting, emotional, and motivational. She encouraged us to foster consideration, contentment, confidence, and courage – and most importantly, never to allow anyone to stop us from following our dreams, however hard the route to success might be.

The standing ovation at the end as she finished singing Smile by Nat King Cole was an unforgettable moment.

Inter-house Competition

This week saw Brains of More House return in a different format – the girls battled it every lunchtime with a game of Trivial Pursuit. The year 11 girls were so enthusiastic, they insisted on a round just for year 11, which has been scheduled for early next week.

The results so far:

Years 7 & 8 – Walsingham

Years 9 & 10 – Iona

Years 11 & sixth form – three-way tie between Iona, Canterbury, and Walsingham

Stay tuned for the final results! Good luck, girls.

Informal Concert

We were delighted on Tuesday with musical performances from our talented girls, who showcased the pieces they have been learning in their music lessons. For some, it was their first performance in front of an audience, while others were seasoned pros at entertaining the crowds. Well done to everyone who took part!

Peer Mentors Trip

Phoebe Leonard reports on their trip on Wednesday:

“The Peer Mentors in years 10, 11, and 12 went to the Safe To Net offices in Piccadilly Circus. We were asked to create an app and choose the features we thought a 6 to 13-year-old would want in a safety app on their phones, in order to help the company understand how they might improve their app from a child’s perspective.

It was a great experience and lots of fun. We were able to explore different ideas and learn more about what safety apps are trying to do. It was great and ended perfectly with a Domino’s pizza.”
